Nanzenji is located next to Eikando Temple and the Philosopher's Path, which make for the perfect itinerary when exploring this area. The aqueduct is also well worth the visit. Out of all the sub-temples around Nanzenji, I think Tenjuan stands out the most for its stunning Zen garden.

If you walk the entire length of the Philosopher's Path (30 minutes) you'll eventually reach Ginkakuji, another famous temple known for its autumn leaves and moss garden.
